- The beginning of a spell of eight very cold days with the temperature remaining mostly below 0 C. At Reading ice 9 inches [22 cm] thick formed on the waterworks filters and the water supply failed. Hundreds of pipes burst

- Equal warmest February night on record - the minimum temperature fell no lower than 11.5 C in mild SW'ly winds.
