The end of the driest 12 month period on Reading's records. Between 21 September 1975 and 19 September 1976 only 346 mm of precipitation fell - just under 55% of the 1981-2010 average annual rainfall. A very wet spell then set in - the 346 mm that had taken 12 months to accumulate had already been surpassed by year-end, less than 15 weeks later.
The highest 0900 GMT September pressure reading on record - 1039.5 mb as a large area of high pressure lay over S Britain.
