About ISDA2016

The fifth International Symposium on Data Assimilation (ISDA) is set to take place on the 18th-22nd July, 2016, at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, home to the Data Assimilation Research Centre. The ISDA 2016, follows the success of the ISDA 2015 held at the RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science (AICS), Kobe, Japan and previous symposia held in Germany ( LMU (2014) , DWD (2012-2013)). The symposium will bring together about 150 researchers and consist of invited talks from leading scientists, short oral presentations with extended discussion, and extended poster sessions.

No, the conference will be fully equipped to display PDF and powerpoint presentations. Feel free to use your own laptop if you would rather.
A0 posters are preferred.
If you would like to have your poster printed in Reading and delivered directly to the conference, we have arranged with a local company to provide this service. A0 posters cost £13.25 - please contact reading@hobsrepro.com directly to arrange the payment and your requirements. Be sure to tell them you are attending ISDA2016 to get that price and the delivery to the conference venue. The company's website can be found at www.print-room.co.uk.

Keynote lectures will be 40 minutes long plus 10 minutes allowed for questions.
Short talks will be 15 minutes long plus 5 minutes allowed for questions.
If your poster is in the Monday session: please put up your poster on the Monday morning and take it down by the end of Tuesday.
If your poster is in the Wednesday session: please put up your poster on the Wednesday morning and take it down by the end of Thursday
Overnight accommodation for delegates will be in the Stenton Halls of residence (see campus map). Please collect room keys from Park Group Reception, located on the ground floor of Windsor Hall (adjacent to Stenton Halls, see attached campus map).

Keys are available from 10:00am and reception is staffed until 20:00. A phone is available outside of reception for late arrivals. Please use the hotline telephone which will put you though to a member of the security team who will give you your room key and direct you to your room.

There will be a general information document in each bedroom. Please vacate the bedroom by 9.30am on the day of departure. There is a charge for lost key cards and/or room keys. There is no luggage storage facility at Park Group, but we will be able to store luggage at the conference location.

Breakfast will be served in Eat at the Square from 07:30am until 09:00am on Central Whiteknights campus (Building 7 on the attached Campus map, approximately 10 minutes walk from Stenton Halls and about 10 minutes from the Agriculture building).

There are lots of good restaurants in the Oracle Centre in central Reading, which will cater for all tastes and budgets. See the map for the location.

By air, the closest major airport to the University of Reading is London Heathrow, and coaches run to and from Reading train station every 20-30 minutes, taking approximately 55 minutes. See www.railair.com for more information.
Other airports with direct connections to Reading include London Gatwick (75 minute train, hourly), Southampton Airport (45 minute train, every 30 minutes)

Accommodation

We have booked a large, but limited, number of rooms on campus for delegates at ISDA2016. Accommodation costs must be covered by the participants themselves. On campus en-suite accommodation, will be £61 per night for bed and breakfast. Accommodation should be booked at the time of registration.

Student support

We are pleased to be able to offer financial support for up to 10 students wishing to attend the ISDA 2016. We will cover the cost of 5 night’s bed and breakfast at the University of Reading on campus en-suite accommodation (worth £305).
