bl_type: An algorithm to objectively diagnose boundary-layer using Doppler lidar and sonic anemometer data

Doppler lidar is a powerful tool for the remote sensing of the boundary layer. bl_type is a package that can diagnose boundary-layer type from Doppler lidar and sonic anemometer data. There are 9 types, based on the types used in the UK Met Office boundary-layer scheme (Lock et al., 2000), that can be diagnosed (see below) and for each time a probability of each type is calculated. Full details of the algorithm can be found in Harvey et al. (2013).

Source code: bl_type-0.1.tar.gz: The code was written by Natalie Harvey and has been tested on Linux. It is in Matlab and requires the netCDF toolbox. Please read the README file carefully before use. The software is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public license with two additional clauses as described in the COPYING file. In brief (1) you may use, modify and distribute the code provided that distributed versions are release under the same licensing conditions; (2) if you use a modified version of the code to produce data that is released to other users or used in a publication, then you must release your modified code under the same licensing conditions; (3) any publications making use of the code must cite Harvey et al (2013). Note that this is a preliminary release of the source code.
