Aqua-planet initial conditions

An aqua-planet integration can be initialized with conditions from a model run with land and orography. The dump must be reconfigured by clicking that option in the UMUI, and sufficient integration time must then be allowed for the model atmosphere to come into balance with the forcing (6 months is a safe length of time for this). If initial conditions are taken from a previous aqua-planet integration, this adjustment time can be reduced.

Whatever start dump is used, the date of the dump must be compatible with the start date of the model. It is possible to change the date set in a UM start dump by running a small UNIX script in your umui_jobs directory which edits the RECONA script. This then causes the start dump to be reconfigured with the new date at run time. The script is called ch.recmar19 and is included in the tar file which can be downloaded from these pages. This version is set up for the 19th of March 1996 and would need to be edited if any other date is chosen as the start time.

To run this script, just type "ch.recmar19 jobname" in your umui_jobs directory, where "jobname" is the 5 letter identifier for the experiment (e.g. xajue).
