About Me
Academic
I am a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with NCAS-Climate within the Department of Meteorology, University of Reading, UK. My project is investigating summer North Atlantic/European blocking and jet distribution and its representation in the UK Met Office models, lead by Tim Woollings (University of Oxford), Brian Hoskins (University of Reading) and Keith Williams (UK Met Office).
I started my Ph.D. in Atmosphere, Oceans and Climate at the University of Reading in October 2010 and graduated in July 2015. My supervisors are Dr Kevin Hodges, Nation Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), University of Reading, and Dr Tim Woollings, University of Oxford. My PhD thesis is titled: 'Storm track biases and changes in a warming climate from an extratropical cyclone perspective'. This research is currently being prepared for journal submission.
Prior to this I completed a four year M.Met. (Hons) degree in Meteorology also at the University of Reading, which included a one year exchange at the University of Oklahoma, U.S.A. at the School of Meteorology. I graduated in July 2010 with first-class honours.
Related prior work experience
I was awarded a scholarship placement to work at the Met Office, Exeter, during Summer 2009. I worked with the Atmospheric Processes and Parametrization team investigating the effect some recent advances in cloud microphysics models had on some heavy snowfall case studies.
Storm chasing

One of my biggest hobbies is storm chasing and tornado chasing in the Great Plains region of the U.S.A. I first went chasing during my year studying in Oklahoma in 2008/9 and returned to chase in the spring of 2010. I am shown here with my chase partners infront of the Campo tornado in Colorado on May 31st 2010. Photo taken by chase partner Rebekah LaBar.
