UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING

MT37F/MT4XF Oceanography (2007/2008 - 2009/2010 - 2010/2011 - 2011/2012)

This module provides an introduction to oceanography. The first 5 lectures focuses on observational techniques and aims at establishing the difficulties associated with documenting ocean properties. The next 3 or 4 lectures are devoted to the classical wind-driven theories, namely Ekman theory, Sverdrup theory, and western boundary currents. Follow 3 or 4 lectures on thermohaline processes, which focus on the Stommel daemon, water masses formation, multiple equilibria and past climate changes. Finally, a few lectures on topical issues, such as ocean energetics, carbon cycle, ACC, meso-scale eddies Rossby waves, have all been covered at one time or the other.

MT37E Dynamics of Weather Systems (2013/2014-2014/2015-2015/2016)

This module is basically about the quasi-geostrophic theory of weather systems.
