Useful Weather Links - Remote Sensing
Active weather can be monitored and archived for future analysis through a wide-range of different techniques. These are some of the websites I like to look at routinely to catch up with what's happening out there!
- The University of Dundee Satellite Receiving Station has an excellent satellite image archive of polar-orbiting and geostationary satellite image. Registration is freely available.
- Today's passes from Dundee are summarised here.
- The Met Office Satellite Imagery may be found here.
- Eumetsat is the branch of the European Space Agency devoted to weather satellites.
- Inspiring Images from EUMETSAT.
- Current Satellite Animations are maintained by the department of infrared and visible satellite images for the UK and Europe as a whole. Here you will find animations for both the last week (days 1-7) and the week prior (days 8-14).
- NRL Monterey satellite products.
- A satellite perspective from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS), University of Wisconsin-Madison.
- Remote Sensing Systems Summary (RSS) of Global Satellites.
- Wonderful Meteosat SEVIRI 000.0E Geostationary Satellite Images from UK-based NEODASS archive, 2004 to present.
- The Visible Earth from NASA. Useful resource for tracking down images of specific events, or just images to wonder at.
