Joint DynVar/SNAP Workshop, 22nd-26th April 2013

Hotels

The majority of delegates will stay at the Hotel Ibis in the centre of Reading. We will negotiate a block booking for these hotels.

The hotel is convenient for town centre restaurants and bars, but a short bus ride on public transport will be required to reach the conference venue each morning.

We have secured a block booking through Chelsea Travel Management of 50 rooms at the IBIS until 14th March.

Workshop Venue and Transport

All sessions in both workshops will take place in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading. Details of how to reach the venue on public buses are here. Details of fares and how to pay are here. You should allow 30 mins for travel between the town centre and the University at peak times.

Food and Entertainment

During the workshops, morning coffee, a sandwich lunch and afternoon tea will be served to all delegates. A small registration fee will be charged to cover this provision.

The town centre of Reading provides a number of different locations for eating dinner many located at the Oracle shopping precinct. Delegates may also like to try Sweeny and Todd's pie shop, simple suppers at Bill's or more formal dinning at the London Street Brasserie or Forbury's.

Travel to Reading

  • By Train Eurostar trains are an easy way to travel to Reading. Upon arrival at St Pancras International, take a Circle, District or Hammersmith and City line Underground train direct to Paddington Station. From here there are regular services to Reading station, tickets can be booked in advance via The Trainline. The Ibis hotel is a short walk (5 mins) from the main Reading train station.
  • By Air The most convenient airport for Reading is London Heathrow. There is a fast and cheap coach service direct from Heathrow to Reading which runs every 7-10 mins and takes 40-45mins. The rail air coach also drops passengers at Reading rail station (5 mins walk to conference hotel). Other airports are much less convenient, but it is possible to travel to Gatwick airport and then take a (longer) train to Reading, typical journey times are one and half to two hours.
