Aerosol Data Assimilation at the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre I will present the data assimilation enhancement of a chemical transport model developed at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) using a Local Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter. The work that has been done so far has focused on global mineral dust, dust being a prominent type of aerosol, and is a first step towards applying data assimilation to a fully coupled and multi-scale chemical transport model. I will discuss different aspects of the assimilation system through the real-case application of assimilating satellite retrieved products of aerosol optical depth: the quality control on dust observations, observation localisation, the design of the model ensemble, as well as the use of computational resources. |
