Data Assimilation Meetings at Reading

Date Meeting type Speakers
11 July 2012 DARC seminar Tristan Quaife (UoR)
Data assimilation and models of the terrestrial biosphere (ppt)
Dynamic vegetation models provide part of the boundary conditions for climate model predictions by describing the exchange of trace gasses and energy with the land surface and how these change over time with climate. At first glance it would appear that existing data assimilation methods should transfer easily from the the NWP community to vegetation models, but this may not actually be the case. In this talk I will to explore some of the reasons why the data assimilation problem for vegetation models, and perhaps the structure of the models themselves may need some rethinking and provide examples of the work we have been doing over the last 10 years.
