GCRF African SWIFT

The African SWIFT (Science for Weather Information and Forecasting Techniques) project aimed to facillitate improved weather forecasting in tropical Africa. The project was a collaboration between several UK organisations and partner organisations in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal and was funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).

My work within the project focussed on remote sensing of convective systems and evaluation of forecasts of convective events, including both training African meteorologists and research, in collaboration with Thorwald Stein. I conducted the first quantitative evaluation of satellite nowcasting products in tropical Africa. Further publications related to my SWIFT work are in progress.
