Scariest landing: plane wobbles in extreme winds at Birmingham Airport Plane wobbles and dips dramatically at Birmingham Airport, as pilots of the Boeing 767 attempt to guide it to a safe landing Daily Telegraph, 19 Feb 2014 You can only imagine what this must have been like on board. Perhaps hearts were in mouths; perhaps they barely noticed - although most must surely have at least glanced nervously through the cabin windows when the plane bounced on landing. Flying conditions in recent months have certainly been less than ideal. We've had the wettest January on record, and much of the country has been hit by some ferocious conditions. As this Boeing 767 - which appears to have the First Choice livery - draws closer to the runway at Birmingham International Airport, it's clearly not ideal for the pilots. The plane wavers, and the wings seem to ripple in the wind as the approach nears an end. What happens next is a testament to the skill of the pilots - as well as the plane's robust landing gear. At first it wobbles, then dips sharply, before the landing carriage finally touches the ground. One bounce, a disconcerting puff of vapour, a brief moment of doubt - and the plane quickly adjusts to the front, gliding down the runway as though nothing has happened. The footage, which was posted on YouTube on Sunday, has already had more than two million views. Difficult landings have also made the news across the Atlantic this week. Several passengers were injured on Monday when a United Airlines flight from Denver to Billings, Montana, experienced severe turbulence. Dr Paul Williams, a climate scientist from the University of Reading, warned that encounters of that sort were likely "to become more frequent in the future".
