Up up and away: atmospheric sciences with Paul Williams Real Scientists | by Upulie Divisekera | December 15, 2018 Our next curator is Dr Paul D. Williams (@DrPaulDWilliams). Paul is Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Reading, UK. He was educated at Oxford University, receiving a first-class degree in physics and a PhD in atmospheric physics. He specialises in atmospheric modelling, turbulence, and climate change. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers and two books. Paul makes frequent TV and radio appearances, including on BBC, Sky News, CNN, The Discovery Channel, and The Weather Channel. Paul's chief interest is in turbulence, how it affects flights, and how climate change will affect it. He says: "I wanted to use my knowledge to make the world a better place. Turbulence is the hardest problem in classical physics. I like a challenge! I specialise in geophysical fluid dynamics, climate change, and numerical modelling. Turbulence is everywhere in the atmosphere but mostly we don't notice it – until we try and fly through it!" Paul also hase a dog who also tweets @SallyCollieDog! In his spare time, he plays the piano and loves a lazy morning with a lie-in and a cup of tea in bed, followed by a sunny dog-walk to a pub and lunch with loved ones. Welcome, Paul!
