I am a Post Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading. I am currently working on the DIAMET consortium project (DIAbatic influence on Mesoscale structures in ExTratropical storms). The project aims to improve our ability to predict the mesoscale structure of severe storms over the UK at forecast times ranging from several hours to several days. I am working on the predictability work package with Stefano Migliorini, Laura Baker and Ross Bannister. We are concerned with the meso/convective scale. We are looking at simulating sources of model error and comparing forecast error predictions with observations. I am currently working with Jean-Francois Caron (MetOffice@Reading) on a convective scale (1.5 km Southern UK domain) ensemble system. We are upgrading the setup to work with version 7.8 of the UK Met Office Unified Model and we are focussing on a case from the DIAMET flight campaign (20th Sept 2011). We will use the ensemble to evaluate the forecast errors simulated by perturbing parameterisations against those derived from the observational campaign data.
