I am a senior research scientist working within the Atmospheric Physics directorate of the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) at the University of Reading (UoR). The NCAS Atmospheric Physics directorate conducts research on dynamical and physical processes in the atmosphere on the local and regional scale. My work is primarily related to the use of meteorological radar for one of the two main themes within the directorate: convective processes and severe weather. My interests cover a wide range of meteorological radar applications. These include radar refractivity retrieval, quantitative precipitation estimation, the retrieval of vertical air motion, dual-polarisation and multi-wavelength observations and radar signal processing. I am involved with many of these techniques being used to validate high-resolution, convection-permitting forecast models. I work closely with the Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research (CFARR), the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, the Radar Signal Processing team of the UK Met Office, and the Advanced Nowcasting Research group and the Mesoscale Modelling group of the MetOffice@Reading.
