Detailed plots for 28 Jan 09

Notes: stratocu means lidars and radiometer socked in.

Vertical pointing 35GHz radar: low level stratocu layers, mid-level ice cloud, upper level cirrus

Radar Doppler Velocity: observe waves propagating through mid-level cloud, modulating ice crystal fall velocities (0.5-1m/s ish).
Stratocu turbulent but average velocity approx 0m/s. drizzle falling out at 08-0830, 0920-0950Z at 0.5m/s.

Scan from 3GHz radar at 1030 UT: sees mid-level ice cloud, some seeding from upper level cirrus. Insensitive to low level strato-cu.

Doppler Velocity: interesting structure, some wind shear.

Scan from 3GHz radar at 12 UT: sees mid-level ice cloud, upper level cirrus is too tenuous

Doppler Velocity: wind shear 500m above cloud base.

Skew-T from Larkhill (25km W Chilbolton) at 12Z: top of mid-level cloud close to water saturation
