Research Interests

My research interests lie at the interface between Analysis, Dynamical Systems and Probability Theory and Statistics on one side and applications to Weather, Climate, and Oceans on the other side. I am developing both methods on a rigorous mathematical basis as well as software for practical applications. Particular research interests are currently

  • Nonlinear and Infinite Dimensional Stochastic Systems
  • Data Assimilation
  • Applied Nonlinear Filtering
  • Statistical Learning
  • Evaluation of Weather- and Climate Forecasts
  • Calibration, Skill Scores and Reliability

Apart from the natural sciences, my list of interests are currently topped by calligraphy, history, model airplanes, woodworking, and dinghy sailing
