I am a lecturer in the Meteorology Department of Reading University having previously been a Reasearch fellow in the Climate Division of the NERC funded National Centre for Atmospheric Science based at the University of Reading. There I worked with Julia Slingo on tropical intraseasonal variability, particularly the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO). This is a Kelvin wave-like phenomenon which propagates around the tropics, alternately enhancing and supressing convection. It takes between 30 and 60 days to propagate once around the equator, hence its alternative name - the Intraseasonal Oscillation.
I am also very interested in operational weather forecasting and currently teach the MSc module on Forecasting Systems and Applications.
I am the Programme Director for the Undegraduate degree courses that we offer in the Meteorology Department.
