Squash Ladder

This is a the home page for the second Meteorology Squash Tournament. Their are 32 players in the tournament, which are shown on the players page with all the player's e-mail addresses. The tournament follows the Monrad system, which is shown on the fixtures page.

Top female player Jo Pelly (4th)
Performance of the tournament Ewan O'Connor (6th)

Deadlines for games to be played are

RoundDeadline
Round 1 Before Easter (27th March)
Round 2 19th April
Round 3 10th May
Round 4 31st May
Final Round 20th June

This allows about 3 weeks to play every game, but it's helpful if all games are played as soon as possible. Anyone going on holiday, conference or who are temporarily injured may obviously need longer than these deadlines. This should be fine as long Marc and your opponent know about it.

Squash Night is booked on courts 1 and 2 from 5:20pm to 10pm on Thurs the 20th June. We'll try and play all the final round games from the tournament on this night.

Inevitably not everybody will be able to make it. However, if your opponent in the tournament can't make it then we'll find someone of a similar standard who can play you, i.e. everyone in the tournament who wants to play squash on Squash Night will. A list of who can and cannot make Squash Night is provided on the players page.

Apart from the final round it up to players to organise their own games. Typically one player will e-mail their opponent with a choice of about 3 times when they can play, and the opponent will then reply by either picking one of times or suggesting some alternative times. Most of the final round games should be played on Squash Night.

Games will be the best of five, and do not count to the squash ladder. The official rules for the very keen (I've not read them) can be found on the World Squash Federation page.

Games will be arranged between the players involved, and the results should be written up on the noticeboard.

Figurine in bad shorts.

A list of players and fixtures is provided on both the noticed board in the coffee room and on these web pages.

The draw took place at 11:15am on Friday the 8th March in the coffee room. The current list of competitors is shown on the players page. The top 8 players according to the ladder were drawn in the top 8 places, and the next highest players on the ladder plus 2 players who could arguably of been in the top 8 if on ladder took places 9-16. Everyone else was placed 17-32.

Any future event will probably be run differently after our experiences with this event. So please let me (marc@met.rdg.ac.uk) know what you think about this tournament and any ideas for what we should change.

Hope you enjoy it.

Cheers, Marc (marc@met.rdg.ac.uk)
