Issues for hybrid model

Coupling to ocean

Technical issues of how to couple to hybrid, see p6 of my UKESM General III for diagrams of the options

  1. Send ocean fields to both Snr and Jnr
  2. Send ocean fields from Snr
  3. Send fields evolved from ocean fields

I think what we should try is

  1. Couple Snr to ocean only, and try and observe any departure between Snr and Jnr.
    • The fields particularly interesting to look at our those driving UKCA, i.e. the fields listed in tables 34 and 35 in section C `UKCA Driving fields' of UMDP 084.
    • Follow this with coupling the Ocean->Atmosphere fields to Jnr. Hence, we'd only be providing ocean input to Jnr to start with.

Ocean to Jnr interactions

There are some ocean to Jnr interactions which would be nice to capture

  • Dust and iron deposition

Type of coupling mapping

  • Bi-linear
  • Conservative remapping

Any time averaging

Should we use more than instantaneous fields?
