Nudging

Nudging is a form of sequential data assimilation, wherein model variable values are relaxed towards those of observations. Adopted in the current high-resolution versions of the Met Office's Unified Model, the power of this technique lies in its ability to deal with relatively strong non-linearities and its low computational cost.
