NCEO Data Assimilation Training

Each year we run a training programme to help and advise National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) researchers on data assimilation. The courses consist of both lectures on the theory of data assimilation and computer practicals.

  • Documentation for the computer practical on 4DVar can be found here.
  • Documentation for the computer practical on the ensemble Kalman filter can be found here.

      2012

      16-18 April, University of Leicester.
This year the data assimilation training will form part of the NCEO Early Career Science Conference.

      2011

      11-12 July, University of Reading
This was a 3 day course designed to give interactive help on individual's problems in data assimilation. Below is a list of the talks given.
      Peter Jan van Leeuwen
      Introduction to data assimilation
      Ross Bannister
Variational data assimilation and forecast error statistics
      Amos Lawless
Implementation issues in variational data assimilation
      Stefano Migliorini
      Ensemble methods for data assimilation
      Peter Jan van Leeuwen
Particle filters in high dimensional geophysical systems
      Alison Fowler
      Measures of observation impact

      2010

      5-7 July, University of Surrey
This 3 day course provided an introduction to data assimilation for scientists working in a broad range of areas under NCEO.
