I am a postdoctoral researcher working with Prof. Maarten Ambaum and Dr Ben Harvey primarily on mid-latitude storm tracks and their interaction with the associated eddy-driven jet streams. We are currently developing a two-dimensional model that describes observed oscillatory properties of localised storm tracks, namely the nonlinear relationship between storm track intensity and growth rate. This nonlinear relationship has implications for short term weather prediction of storms and the downstream jet, as well as for the long-term changes of the climate. These implications are now being tested in reanalysis data, medium complexity models and in more complex climate models. Photo
