Entry requirements

Entry requirements vary for the different programmes; below we have listed only the requirements in terms of A-levels and the International Baccalaureate. Applicants with different qualifications, or with less than three full A-levels, should contact the university admissions team. For international students without the normal entry requirements, an International Foundation Programme is available. Note that the University usually requires a grade C or better in GCSE English (or equivalent) for entry.

Details for degrees commencing in 2014 are summarised below:

BSc Meteorology and Climate (UCAS code F790)

Grade C or better in English, science and mathematics in GCSE or equivalent and either A/AS Level: 300 points overall including at least BB in physics and mathematics (both A2 levels) and 100 points from another A2 level or other AS levels;

or International Baccalaureate: Pass IB diploma with higher grades 6, 6, 5 including Physics and Mathematics; or Scottish Advanced Highers: 300 points with at least BB in physics and mathematics plus the remainder from another Advanced Higher or other Highers; or Irish Highers: five grade Bs including physics and mathematics both at grade B Other equivalent qualifications not listed here may also be considered.

BSc Mathematics and Meteorology (UCAS code GF19)

UCAS Tariff:

A Level: Grades ABB or AAC from three A-levels, including grade A in A Level Mathematics International Baccalaureate: 32 points overall including 6 in higher mathematics In addition to:

GCSE: Grade C or better in Physics or Combined Science if Physics AS is not taken. See also

MMet Meteorology and Climate with a Year in Oklahoma (UCAS code F791)

Grade C or better in English, science and mathematics in GCSE or equivalent and: either A/AS Level: 340 points overall including an AA combination in physics and mathematics at A2 levels and 100 points from other A2 or AS levels;

or International Baccalaureate: Pass IB diploma with higher level grades 6,6,6 including Physics and Mathematics;

or Scottish Advanced Highers: 340 points with at least an AA combination in physics and mathematics plus the remainder from another Advanced Higher or other Highers; or Irish Highers: two grade As and three grade Bs with an AA combination in physics and mathematics

In addition to the above qualifications, all suitable candidates for F791 will be called for interview prior to offers being made.

Other equivalent qualifications not listed here may also be considered.

BSc Environmental Physics (UCAS code F330)

Entrants to this programme are normally required to have obtained:

Grade C or better in English, Science and Mathematics at GCSE;

Either ABB from three A levels including Mathematics and Physics, one of which must be at a grade A;

or International Baccalaureat: 32 points including 6,5 in Physics and Mathematics in any order at higher level;

or equivalent qualifications from other national exam systems etc.

Vocational international students without the above qualifications may be admitted via a one-year International Foundation Programme, provided by the Department of Continuing Education. Entry into Part 2 or Part 3 may be allowed under special circumstances, and would be considered on a case-by-case basis. It would be necessary to have successfully undertaken relevant studies at another institute.
