Angus Ferraro: PhD lessons

A list of things I wish I'd given proper attention to earlier on in my PhD project. They might seem obvious to you, in which case you are a better student than I (possibly not hard).

Lesson 1: Don't leave proper coding until later. You'll need to understand it properly if you ever hope to reach publication standard.

Lesson 2: You don't understand something until you can explain it (properly).

Lesson 3: Making good figures takes longer than you think. Make sure you have the data/code to redraw them - you will need to.

Lesson 4: Existential crises will be frequent.
